East Alabama Mental Health Center provides prevention services to children and adults to enhance the development of healthy life management skills.

 

The goal of our Substance Abuse Prevention and Environmental Services programs are to promote a community environment in which individuals, families, schools, and work places take action to promote emotional health and reduce the likelihood of mental illnesses, substance abuse, tobacco use, and suicide.

 

SCHOOL BASED PROGRAMS

Classroom presentations on personal safety, substance abuse, life skills, and conflict resolution

 

AFTER-SCHOOL AND SUMMER PROGRAMS

Educational and alternative recreational activities for youth, ages 5-18, during after school hours, and summer that promotes decision-making skills, anger management skills, communication skills, resistance to peer and media pressure, and job readiness

 

PARENT WORKSHOPS

A variety of workshops on topics related to parenting, child abuse, and stress management PARENT POWER Educational groups for parents of young children, school-age children, adolescents, and children with special needs

Youth Empowerment Program groups provide substance abuse prevention education to adolescents and their parents who are referred by schools or Juvenile Court

We advocate for strong policies in our communities that promote healthy lifestyles.

 

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

We provide information and public awareness at Parenting Expos, Health Fairs, and Town Hall meetings.

 

COMMUNITY COALITIONS

We take an active role in the development of inter-agency and community-wide coalitions with a focus on decreasing under-age drinking and reducing substance abuse. Such efforts include:

AUBURN CARES, the STAMP committee at Auburn Junior High School, and the Lee County Children’s Policy Council.
